TradieSA respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights under Australian privacy law.

1. Who we are

TradieSA is an online platform operated in South Australia, Australia. We connect SA homeowners with SA tradies. When this policy refers to "we", "us", or "our", it means TradieSA.

2. The information we collect

We only collect information that's necessary to run the platform. Specifically:

Account information

  • Email address (required for login and notifications)
  • Phone number (optional, used for OTP verification and direct contact between users)
  • WhatsApp number (optional, used for contact verification)
  • Username and display name
  • Profile photo, cover photo (if uploaded)
  • Password (stored as a one-way hash — we never see your actual password)

Tradie information (if you sign up as a tradie)

  • Business name and ABN
  • ACN (if applicable)
  • Trade categories you work in
  • Trade license number and expiry (for licensed trades)
  • Public liability insurance details
  • Service suburbs and radius
  • Hourly rates and call-out fees (only displayed if you choose to make them public)

Job and posting information

  • Job descriptions, photos, videos you upload
  • Suburb (street address is shown only to tradies you accept)
  • Budget, timing, urgency preferences

Usage and technical information

  • IP address and approximate location
  • Device type, browser, operating system
  • Pages visited, posts viewed, search queries
  • Login times and timestamps
  • Push notification tokens (if you enable notifications)

Payment information

If you purchase credits, payment is processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card details. Stripe holds this information under their own privacy policy. We only receive a transaction reference, amount, and confirmation status.

3. How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Provide and operate the platform (matching jobs to tradies, displaying profiles, processing quotes)
  • Verify your identity and tradie credentials
  • Send job-match notifications and platform updates
  • Process credit purchases and maintain billing records
  • Prevent fraud, spam, and abuse
  • Improve the platform based on aggregated usage patterns
  • Respond to your support enquiries
  • Meet legal obligations under Australian law

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We don't share your contact details with marketing companies.

4. Who can see your information

Other TradieSA users

  • Public: Your username, profile photo, bio, trade categories, suburbs served, verified status, public reviews, public posts
  • Visible only to tradies you accept a quote from: Your full job address, phone number, email
  • Visible only to you and the recipient: Private messages

Service providers we use

We share limited data with trusted service providers who help us run the platform:

  • Stripe — payment processing
  • Google — if you sign in with Google OAuth, and for analytics
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging — for push notifications if you enable them
  • Email delivery service — for sending account emails and notifications
  • Cloud hosting provider — for storing site data

All providers are bound by their own privacy obligations and only handle data necessary for their specific service.

Law enforcement

We'll only disclose your data to government agencies or law enforcement if legally required (court order, subpoena, or to prevent imminent harm).

5. How long we keep your information

  • Active accounts: We keep your data while your account is active.
  • Deleted accounts: When you delete your account, we permanently delete personal information within 30 days. Some records (transactions, security logs, content reports) may be retained longer for legal or fraud-prevention reasons.
  • Email and security logs: Kept for up to 12 months for fraud and abuse prevention.

6. Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate or outdated information
  • Delete your account and personal data
  • Opt out of marketing emails (notification settings in your account)
  • Withdraw consent for specific data uses
  • Complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) if you're unhappy with how we've handled your data

7. Cookies and tracking

We use essential cookies for login, security, and platform functionality. We also use analytics cookies to understand how the platform is used. You can disable non-essential cookies in your browser settings, though some features may not work properly.

8. Data security

We use industry-standard security practices including:

  • HTTPS encryption for all traffic
  • Password hashing (we never store passwords in plain text)
  • Regular security audits
  • Rate limiting and bot protection
  • Access controls for staff and admin functions

No system is perfectly secure. If we discover a data breach affecting your personal information, we'll notify you and the OAIC as required by the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.

9. Children's privacy

TradieSA is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you believe we've inadvertently collected data from a minor, contact support@tradiesa.com.au and we'll delete it.

10. Overseas data transfers

Some of our service providers (Stripe, Google, Firebase) process data outside Australia. We only use providers that meet Australian privacy standards or equivalent. By using TradieSA, you consent to this overseas processing where it's necessary to deliver the service.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be notified via email to active users. Continued use of the platform after changes means you accept the updated policy.
